The third week of July 2020 the safety tests for the Multi-photon tomography (MPT) part of the PICCOLO system took place at the CCMIJU in Caceres, to evaluate the phototoxicity of the laser light in the tissue.

Twelve rabbits were used for the tests, operated on to expose the descending colon and put the probe in contact with the tissue and then illuminate it with the laser, simulating the working conditions of the system.

On each portion of the colon on which the trials were carried out, once extracted from the animal, was divided into two parts with the aim of analysing the samples from the histological point of view and by qPCR, in order to assess whether cell damage was performed.
